25

“Today heaven is celebrating.” I say this every year and every year I mean it. Today its been 25 trips around the sun since you arrived in to our lives. Although its been 10 years since you left this world, we are still celebrating that you came – even if it was for a little bit – to lighten our days, and taught us so much with your presence and your absence. Today I thought of you without sadness, I thought about you with full gratitude. Today I am thankful for my body, for my path, for my mind and my soul, and I am incredibly thankful to you for making me who I am today. Many times I’ve asked myself how you would look or what you would be doing if you were still around. But lately, not even in my saddest moments, have I asked “what would it be like if you were here?” and I realize how much I’ve moved forward in this mourning process , where pain doesn’t disappear but it transforms itself…its no longer a heavy trunk that weights a ton and I drag through the world, instead its more like a coin-holder that I take in my pocket wherever I go. Today I am happy about celebrating your birthday, about celebrating your life and your light, your curly hair and your smiles, of the fact that you changed the life of many and that you have taught us to celebrate every moment and truly appreciate every problem or blessing that life puts our way.

Happy birthday Cris. I love you.
